When someone tells me their hips are tight, I ask what their hips did yesterday. The answer is nearly always the same: they sat, then they sat somewhere else.
A joint needs a job
A hip can flex, extend, turn in, turn out and move out to the side. A chair asks for one of those, held for hours. The others are not locked. They are out of practice.
What to do about it
Give the joint something new every day, and keep it small. Sit on the floor to put your socks on. Take the stairs sideways once. Ten minutes of that beats a long stretch you dread.
